Azra is 24 years old disabled girl living in the rural area of “Multan”. She has been suffering from severe depression since four years. Most of the times, she starts crying and weeping, which continues for hours. But her family members thought that she’s pretending, so she is deprived of all types of psychological and physiological medication. At times she is even beaten by her brothers because of weeping. She is so much humiliated and insulted that she has even been scolded by her nephews.
Contrary to that, there is also the bright side of the picture. A woman in Pakistan is now fully aware of her rights. She is working in each and every field of life along with men. She is an artist as well as an engineer, a doctor as well as a teacher, a pilot as well as the speaker of The National Assembly. Now she is assertive enough that nobody can violet her rights. But the thing which differentiates her from the women in Western society is that even now she is living in a strong family bond. Usually the family set-up of Pakistani woman is extended where every one is there to share her problems. She does her job and brings up her children. At the times of blues and hard ships she has many near and dear one’s to stand along with her, which can boast up her morale and is necessary for her emotional social well being.
Even the disabled women in Pakistan have also the awareness of their rights. Especially in urban areas the disabled women have now become a part of the main stream of the society. Though the average of such disabled women is low, who are striving for their rights in the male- dominating society of Pakistan, yet they are the beam of light and the torch briers for the other disabled one’s.
